Something New

I just wanted to post something new since I haven’t done anything in quite a long time. Currently I am feverishly trying to figure out what to do with myself. Since I have retired and subsequently begun working on a new job; I am trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. I have so many things that I would like to do but still do not have the time to do them because of my new job. I put in 10 hour days and can’t find the time to do the things I really want to do. I guess that is part of growing old. My advice to you is that if you have things you want to do when you retire then you better damn well retire when you retire. Getting a retirement job just does not cut the mustard. Cheers! Farb.

Something about Birthdays

I must admit that I have finally come to another one of those days.  You know, the day you think will never come when you are a kid and the day you hope will never come when you get much older.  Actually, I don’t mind my birthday coming but it seems to be happening much faster than when I was young.  This year was one that I could have done without because of family issues.  However, having said all that, I am still happy to see it come.  I reflect today on what makes it special to me.  I reflect on the fact that I would have never been here to celebrate except for some divine intervention on GOD’s part.  Yes I believe in GOD.  I am mystified every time I think of extremely intelligent people who believe that for “some unknown piece of chance or unknown event” life magically formed.  When you think of all the necessary things that must occur at exactly the precise time and in the right sequence and in the exact quantity; how can you not know GOD exist?  For example the orbit of earth.  Just a little closer to the sun or a little further away and we would be baking on the beach or freezing to death in the Antarctic.  Can you really think that the Earth formed in just the right position without a little help?  That is all I need to tell me there is someone in charge and that he loves me enough to put me here and let me celebrate my birthday.  So for that I am happy to see another one come and go.  Farb

You Know You are Getting Old When…………

Old ManYou really know you are getting old when you are driving down the highway and you start reflecting on the past and the things you remember seeing. More specifically you start remembering the “First of their Kind” things. I mean things that were not around and then all of a sudden we can’t remember not having been around. For example Velcro. Could we live without Velcro? Believe it or not, there was a point in our earlier history when Velcro was not around. Doesn’t it make you feel r-e-a-l-l-y old. It does me. Here are some things I have been thinking about recently:Calculators - I had one of the first in college. It would only do addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division and it cost nearly $100 a month to rent so I could finish my Finance class.Color TV - Believe it or not there was a point when TV was not in color. Now we are up to High Definition 1080p sets that you can hang on the wall.iTunes and MP3 - I started my life with a stereo turntable set that would play both 45 and 33s. I have spent a lifetime collecting LPs and now I am spending a lifetime converting those LPs to MP3.CDs - I remember when the first CD players came out and that the first music on CDs was classical music. Thinking on this yesterday I realized that I was leaving my assignment from the Air Force in 1986 when I bought my first CD at the Base Exchange. Then I realized that was nearly 22 years ago.Man, I know I am r-e-a-l-l-y getting old!
